Canvey Island Girl
I found her on the beach at Canvey Island
There were flowers on her chest and in her hair
We jumped over the fence into the fairground
And tried to win some prizes there
On the fishing game I couldn't make the pick up
On the coconuts she was a little too shy
We had a little storm inside a teacup
And I never had the chance to say goodbye
Canvey Island Girl
I hate to waste a good view
Canvey Island Girl
Of the fireworks above you
Canvey Island Girl
I think I love you
I was looking for a little amusement
Somebody with whom to pass the time
And her presence was a definite improvement
On that cynical demeanour of mine
I asked her for her hand in marriage
Maybe it was a little too soon
At midnight she departed in a Hackney carriage
By the light of an estuary moon
Canvey Island Girl
I hate to waste a good view
Canvey Island Girl
Of the fireworks above you
Canvey Island Girl
I think I love you
She said Canvey Island makes me feel good
Seaside glamour makes me feel good
And Wilko Johnson makes me feel good
Canvey Island Girl
I hate to waste a good view
Canvey Island Girl
Of the fireworks above you
Canvey Island Girl
I think I love you
